alt. Release New Single ‘They’ve Always Lived In The Castle’ And Push Deeper Into Their Darker Era

Adelaide alternative metal outfit alt. have unleashed their latest single ‘They’ve Always Lived In The Castle’, a track that doesn’t just simmer, it snaps.

Released via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records globally, ‘They’ve Always Lived In The Castle’ builds on the tension introduced in ‘Sucker Punch’, but this time the gloves are fully off.

A breaking point turned uprising

Produced, mixed and mastered by Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer, Hands Like Houses), the track leans hard into themes of control, inequality, and what happens when pressure finally cracks.

“They’ve Always Lived In The Castle confronts a world where power has always protected itself,” the band explain (via press release). “Where the wealthy remain untouched, and those at the top tighten their grip while the rest are left behind. The song channels a moment when people decide they’ve had enough and rise to reclaim their lives.”

Where ‘Sucker Punch’ captured that initial moment of clarity, this track feels like the fallout, with less realisation, more retaliation.

Chaos creeping into the everyday

The accompanying video mirrors that escalation, it starts grounded in something familiar, a quiet living room, before everything begins to unravel, what should feel safe slowly turns volatile, echoing the track’s underlying message.

It’s a simple concept, but it lands, especially when paired with a band that clearly understands how to build tension and release it at exactly the right moment.

A band that refuses to sit still

Since forming in 2019, alt. have carved out a space that doesn’t neatly fit into one genre, pulling from punk, pop, electronic and alternative metal, they’ve built a sound that shifts depending on what the song demands.

Their debut EP ‘dysfunctional’ racked up serious numbers early, and by the time ‘ABEYANCE’ landed in 2023, they’d already proven they weren’t interested in playing it safe.

Tours alongside Don Broco, Enter Shikari, Saosin, Dayseeker, Karnivool and Cog only cemented that reputation, same goes for sold out headline runs and festival slots that kept pushing them into bigger rooms.

This new single feels like yet another step forward and I’m excited to see what’s up next for them.
