Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl, has addressed being called a ‘Nepo Baby’, admitting that it doesn’t bother her.
Singer-songwriter Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters‘ frontman Dave Grohl, has addressed being called a “Nepo Baby” in a new interview with The Forty-Five.
Grohl would sit down with the publication to discuss the release of her new album, Be Sweet To Me, releasing May 29 via Aurora Records/Republic Records. Naturally, the interview would steer towards her father and his influence on her music career.
“Obviously, doors are open for me because of my last name,” Grohl admitted. “It’s not something I’m ever going to hide behind or say, ‘No, I worked so hard for this! You guys shouldn’t say that! That hurts my feelings.’
“I don’t care, I really don’t,” she added. “I’ve heard that since I was 13 years old. So call me a nepo baby all you want. It’s ‘whatever’ to me. I just hope that eventually people will give me a shot.”
Grohl made her first on-stage debut as a back-up singer for a one-off Nirvana reunion concert with the band’s members Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear and Dave Grohl when she was only 12 years old.
Her new album, recorded at producer Justin Raisen’s home studio in Los Angeles, takes influence from the late 80s and early 90s alternative acts like the Pixes, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins and The Breeders.
““There’s something so powerful about that period of music, from the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw,” she said in a press release. “I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid.”
Grohl would also note how Billie Eilish was an influence on her growing up, admitting to following the pop sensation since her Soundcloud era.
“Watching her open up this path for female musicians in this alternative pop space that’s still beautiful, it was just so incredible to me,” she’d admit.
Grohl would share her second single, ‘595’, last month, with a music video inspired by 70s grindhouse visuals. You can listen to the track below.
