Sublime have pulled off one of the year’s slickest surprise drops, quietly releasing brand new single “Can’t Miss You” without the usual hype machine attached.
The track lands as the latest preview of the band’s forthcoming album Until The Sun Explodes, due out June 12th via Atlantic Records, and according to frontman Jakob Nowell, the decision to drop it unannounced was entirely intentional.
“We just wanted to drop this one for the hardcore fans. No lead in or marketing push behind it,” Nowell explained.

In a music industry increasingly obsessed with countdowns, teaser clips and carefully engineered social rollouts, Sublime have opted for something refreshingly old school, letting the music speak for itself.
“Can’t Miss You is probably my favorite track on the record. It was one of those magic songs that got written in a day,” Nowell said.
The song also carries a deeply personal thread, with Jakob drawing direct inspiration from the songwriting instincts of his late father and Sublime founder Bradley Nowell.
“The strange chord progression was definitely inspired by my father’s songwriting, especially songs like Pool Shark and STP. Classic Sublime always had this feeling like you never knew where the song was going to take you.”
Jakob added that “Can’t Miss You” stands as one of the lyrical high points of the upcoming record.
“The lyrics of this single are some that I am the most proud of. I hope people will find escape in the stories of this song and the entire record Until the Sun Explodes.”
The album’s title track has already built serious momentum, cracking the Top 5 on the Mediabase Alternative radio charts while introducing this new era of Sublime to both longtime fans and a fresh generation of listeners.
The release arrives during a massive year for the Long Beach icons, who are currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of their landmark self titled 1996 record, the festivities have already included sold out Red Rocks performances, a major Grammy Museum exhibit in Los Angeles and the launch of their own touring Sublime Festival.
With Until The Sun Explodes just weeks away, Sublime aren’t simply revisiting their legacy, they’re proving it still has room to evolve.
