Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares has shared an emotional message after learning that a fan who attended the band’s recent Sydney show was tragically killed in a fatal car accident on the way home.
According to reports, 28 year old Seamus Duignan attended Fear Factory’s May 22nd performance in Sydney as part of his birthday celebrations before later being involved in a devastating high speed crash that claimed three lives (per The PRP).
The incident reportedly occurred after another vehicle crossed into the wrong lane and collided with the Uber carrying Duignan and the driver, both Duignan and the driver were killed in the crash.
Following news of the tragedy, Cazares posted a video online expressing condolences on behalf of the band and acknowledging the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We were deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident involving one of the fans who attended our Sydney show. Our thoughts and condolences go out to their family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss.”
The band also used the moment to encourage fans to prioritise safety while travelling to and from live shows:
“We’re grateful to everyone who comes out to support Fear Factory around the world, and we simply want to remind everyone to travel safely and look out for one another on the road home.”
“Much respect and sympathy from all of us in Fear Factory.”
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through both the Australian heavy music community and Fear Factory’s global fanbase, with many fans sharing tributes and messages of support online following the news.
Fear Factory are currently touring Australia as part of their ongoing live run, with the band continuing to draw strong crowds across the country, while live music communities are often built around celebration, connection and escape, moments like this serve as a devastating reminder of how quickly things can change once the show ends.
