Gallery: Enter Shikari’s Sydney Return Proved They’re Still Untouchable Live

Share

Fresh off the release of Lose Your Self, Enter Shikari returned to Australia this month for a headline run that once again confirmed why they remain one of the most inventive and explosive live bands in heavy music.

By the time the Enter Shikari hit the Sydney stage, the room already felt volatile.

Launching straight into “LOSE YOUR SELF,” the set immediately established the balance that has always made Enter Shikari stand apart, intense without losing control, new material like “(pls) set me on fire,” “The Flick of a Switch I.” and “Find Out The Hard Way…” slotted seamlessly beside older staples, reinforcing just how naturally the band’s constantly evolving sound still connects live.

No signs of slowing down

Tracks like “Labyrinth,” “Rabble Rouser” and “Sorry, You’re Not a Winner” kept the crowd in permanent motion, while moments like “The Void Stares Back” and “{ The Dreamer’s Hotel }” leaned harder into the emotional and political weight that has increasingly shaped the band’s more recent material.

Even after nearly two decades, Enter Shikari still perform with the urgency of a band trying to prove themselves. That intensity has only sharpened following Lose Your Self, a record frontman Rou Reynolds recently described to Blunt as a project built without “drip feeding” or algorithm chasing, instead dropping unexpectedly as a complete body of work designed to be experienced in full.

Live, that mentality translates perfectly, rather than feeling segmented between “old” and “new” eras, the set flowed like one giant collision between post-hardcore tracks, electronic experimentation and massive emotional release.

“Quelle Surprise” arriving with the Rout remix energy injected another level of unpredictability into the night before the encore closed things out with “Spaceship Earth (I. Avec Abandon)” and the always euphoric “Juggernauts.”

It also felt clear throughout the show that Australia still holds a special place for the band, speaking with Blunt earlier this month, Reynolds described Australia as ‘our favourite place really,’ while reflecting on the connection the band continues to have with local crowds after years of touring here.

Judging by the atmosphere inside the venue, the feeling still goes both ways.
