Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho has addressed the long running criticism that his success as a professional wrestler has overshadowed perceptions of his rock career, arguing that the band’s longevity proves they are much more than a celebrity side project.
Speaking with The Jesea Lee Show, Jericho said every successful band has a defining characteristic that helps them stand out, but ultimately survives on the strength of its music.
“Every band has a gimmick. SLIPKNOT wears masks. When METALLICA came out, they played faster than anybody. KISS had makeup. All that is great. FOZZY has a wrestler as a singer. Awesome. Then five minutes into the performance, either it’s good or it’s bad.”
The singer pointed to Fozzy‘s 25 year career and continued festival success as evidence that the band has earned its place in modern rock.
25 years and counting
“If we weren’t a great rock and roll band with great songs, we wouldn’t still be around 25 years later playing festivals high up on the ladder like we are.”
Jericho also reflected on the importance of evolution in music, citing legendary acts including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and David Bowie as examples of artists who continually reinvented themselves rather than relying on a single formula (per Blabbermouth).
According to Jericho, bands that fail to grow often fade away after an initial burst of popularity, while the most enduring acts are willing to take creative risks and explore new directions without losing their identity.
The Fozzy frontman drew parallels between his musical career and his decades in professional wrestling, where he has regularly refreshed his character work to keep audiences engaged.
Jericho also addressed criticism from detractors online, explaining that he prefers to focus on supporters rather than those determined to dislike him.
“I don’t worry about the people that don’t like me. I focus on the people that do, and I focus on making new fans who like what I do.”
Fozzy ‘I Know Evil’
Fozzy recently released the single “I Know Evil”, following 2025’s “Fall In Line” and 2023’s “Spotlight”. The tracks continue the band’s current run of standalone releases following their 2022 album Boombox.
The band is currently riding momentum from appearances at major U.S. festivals including Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple as they continue their “Twisted Faith Tour 2026”.
