Australian Placebo fans have been given a rare opportunity to hear the band’s reworked debut album before anyone else, with an exclusive Pitchblack Playback listening event coming to Melbourne next week.
In partnership with fan to fan ticketing platform Tixel, Placebo are inviting fans to register for a chance to attend an intimate preview screening of PLACEBO RE, a newly reimagined version of the band’s landmark self titled debut album ahead of its official release next Friday, June 19th.
The Melbourne event forms part of a limited global series of Pitchblack Playback listening premieres, taking place in select cities around the world. Unlike a traditional listening party, Pitchblack Playback events remove all distractions, allowing audiences to experience music in complete darkness with no phones, screens or interruptions.
It’s a unique chance to hear one of alternative rock’s most influential albums through a new lens, 30 years after the release of their ground breaking debut, PLACEBO RE revisits the original recordings with the benefit of decades of touring and performance experience.
A director’s cut
Rather than completely rebuilding the album, the band returned to the original master tapes and reshaped the songs based on how they have evolved on stage over the past three decades:
“We think of this record as a director’s cut. We haven’t recreated it from scratch. We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record,” Placebo explain.
The new release features reworked versions of all ten tracks from the original album, alongside two bonus tracks that appeared on the original release.
