Beartooth have pulled and rebuilt the lyric video for their new single Bullshit after discovering commissioned artwork allegedly included AI-generated material, despite the band specifically requesting that AI not be used.
Caleb Shomo Frontman of Beartooth addressed the situation publicly ahead of the track’s release, explaining that concerns surfaced after teaser content for the song was flagged and conversations around the artwork intensified.
According to Shomo, the creator behind the project repeatedly assured the band throughout production that the visuals had been made without AI assistance, but after further discussions, Beartooth say they determined that wasn’t true.
Shomo wrote:
“Hello all you lovely people
We posted a teaser this morning for a new song that was flagged for Al.
The artist we commissioned for this project assured us adamantly throughout the process that no Al was used to create this lyric video.
Unfortunately after a lot of red flags and conversations this morning, we now know for a fact that was not the case.
We have no interest in using Al or artists lying about using Al to try to translate the blood sweat and tears that were put into this album in any way shape or form.
My brother luke who worked tirelessly on the album art will again work tirelessly tonight to whip up a lyric video we’re all proud of and stand behind because he’s really badass.
The song will be posted as scheduled.
We love you all and we love human creativity.
Thank you for understanding
— Caleb Shomo / Beartooth”
Business as usual
Rather than postpone the release, Beartooth confirmed Bullshit would still arrive on schedule while the visual component gets rebuilt internally, with Shomo’s brother Luke stepping in to create a replacement.
The announcement lands during a major moment for the band, who recently unveiled details of their upcoming album Pure Ecstasy and confirmed a headline Australian tour for next January.
