After nearly two decades as a band, Seahaven are finally heading to Australia. We caught up with Kyle Soto about the new record, songwriting through difficult times, and why the next chapter feels like both a beginning and a summary.
For Seahaven vocalist and guitarist Kyle Soto, the opportunity to finally play Australia has been a long time coming. The Torrance, California alternative rock band were originally hoping to make the trip more than a decade ago, but plans fell through.
Now, almost two decades into Seahaven’s existence, the band are heading Down Under for an extensive regional run with Sydney’s Dear Seattle.

A Long Time Coming
“It had been a while,” Soto explains. “Last record we released was in 2020,” he says, before noting his 2024 solo record also helped keep the creative wheels turning.
The tour’s timing also coincides with Seahaven’s self-titled 2026 album, a record Soto sees as both a culmination and a fresh starting point.
“I feel it’s almost both,” he says. “I think that it’s somewhat of a summary in the sense that I think it very much encapsulates a lot of the strong suits of the songwriting from the discography before it, but it also feels like moving forward again.”

For Soto, songwriting tends to emerge from the harder corners of life. Relationship problems, family issues and personal turmoil can become the starting point, turning music into something of a therapeutic outlet.
“It’s a positive because it obviously works. It’s a sort of therapeutic way of dealing things, kind of a cathartic, you know, kind of experience of writing the songs and moving through the motions in that way.”
That darkness sits alongside the melodic hooks that have become a defining part of Seahaven’s sound. Soto says the process remains exciting when an idea arrives naturally, whether that’s a lyric, melody or riff, and begins to reveal the complete song in his head.

Life outside of music and Australia
He also has another creative outlet waiting in the wings. If music wasn’t part of his life, Soto says he would likely be working in film, particularly directing.
“It’s the same way in the putting together an album,” he explains, comparing the two mediums through their combination of moving parts, visual elements and creative decisions.
For now, however, Australia comes first.
Seahaven will join Dear Seattle across the entire regional tour, giving the band a chance to finally meet fans who have spent years asking them to make the trip.
“We’re really excited to finally get to play for fans that have been waiting,” Soto says.
And with a new record, a sprawling Australian itinerary and nearly 20 years of Seahaven behind them, the timing finally feels right.
