Rochester “dark pop” trio Glasswaves have officially unveiled their debut studio album, Entitled (while)True, the album is slated for release on Friday, October 23 via SharpTone Records. Its announcement was preceded by the release of two singles earlier this year, ‘fvck.me.up’ and ‘doomed:2:DIE’ in April and June respectively.
Today (August 27th), the band have also shared the album’s third single, entitled ‘Swarm.ING_’. The song blends melodic post-hardcore with abrasive djent-style guitars, with slick production overseen by Justin Spaulding – an Atlanta producer best known for his work with Ice Nine Kills.
In a press statement, lead vocalist Noah Rich described the new single as being “about the feeling of something taking over your mind and feeding off of you, only to realize you are the thing that’s been consuming you.”
“When this one started it felt like we tapped into a new, almost nu-metal direction for us,” he said, “while still keeping that core Glasswaves sound.” The song’s music video, like the two before it, was directed by Andrew Curtin. Watch it below.
(while)True is being billed in press materials as a concept album of sorts, with its focus centring around a fictional tech company called Liminal-Neuro. The company administers a new drug called Neuro Veil, and creates a monster known as The Veil after a series of failed psychological tests.
Rich described Glasswaves’ upcoming debut album as their “most ambitious and personal release yet” in a further press statement. “Through the story of a failing medical technology company experimenting with dream manipulation, we explore themes of trauma, addiction, perception, and the unseen forces that shape the way we think,” he said.
“More than anything, this album represents our growth as writers. We challenged ourselves creatively, stopped following expectations, and made the record we truly wanted to make. We can’t wait for people to experience the world of (while)True, and find their own meaning within it.”
