Bruce Dickinson has taken a swipe at US President Donald Trump’s latest Canada stunt, using the opening night of Iron Maiden’s North American tour to dismiss the state of affairs as ‘ridiculous’.
Iron Maiden kicked off the latest North American leg of their Run For Your Lives tour at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night (August 29th), and Dickinson wasted little time acknowledging the political tension currently simmering between Canada and the United States (per Louder Sound).
Trump recently generated another wave of criticism after crossing out ‘Lake Ontario’ on a map during an Oval Office media appearance and replacing it with ‘Lake America’.
Standing in Toronto, Dickinson had his own response.
‘How long has it been since we have been to Toronto? Too long, too long. And in Canada, in fact.
‘We got here, we crossed Lake Ontario, we will be crossing the Gulf of Mexico.
‘It is a ridiculous state of the world.’
The comments drew approval from the Canadian crowd, where Trump’s latest provocation has unsurprisingly landed poorly.
Iron Maiden’s Run For Your Lives tour rolls on
Politics aside, the Toronto show marked another major chapter in Iron Maiden’s sprawling 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Run For Your Lives tour is built heavily around material from the band’s first nine studio albums, dragging some deeper cuts back onto enormous stages alongside the songs that have become immovable pieces of Maiden history.
After travelling through North America across September, the tour will eventually make its way to Australia in November. Better still, Megadeth are coming with them.
The Australian leg begins at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, November 11th before Maiden take over Melbourne’s AAMI Park on Friday, November 13th and Sydney’s Allianz Stadium on Sunday, November 15th.
They’ll then finish with two nights at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, November 18th and Thursday, November 19th.

Those shows are set to close Iron Maiden’s 50th anniversary Run For Your Lives World Tour, giving the Australian run considerably more weight than another lap through the catalogue.
Dickinson has also been particularly vocal throughout this touring cycle about fans keeping their phones down and actually watching the bloody show, while Maiden have professionally filmed the tour for a future concert release.
Considering the band are celebrating five decades while openly acknowledging some songs may disappear from their live sets afterwards, Australian fans have plenty of reasons to pay attention.
Preferably without a phone blocking the view.
