Maria Brink Is Finally Launching Her First Solo Project, Coven

In This Moment frontwoman Maria Brink is finally stepping outside the band for her first solo project, with Maria Brink’s Coven set to arrive before the next In This Moment album.

Brink confirmed the project during a new interview with Rock Sound, revealing that Coven will fill the space between the recently released Witch and whatever comes next from In This Moment.

“I am doing my first solo project between [In This Moment’s recently released ninth album, ‘Witch’, and the band’s next LP]. Maria Brink’s Coven — I’m gonna call it Coven, and that’s gonna be my first thing that I’ve done [as a solo artist]. And then that gives Chris [Howorth, In This Moment guitarist] and I some extra time to really perfect the next In This Moment album between the two. I’m excited.”

Maria Brink’s Solo Plans Are Finally Taking Shape

While there’s currently no confirmed release date, tracklist or other concrete details for Coven, the project has been a long time coming (per Lamb Goat).

Brink was publicly discussing the possibility of making a solo album as far back as 2017, when she told Metal Hammer that she had begun slowly writing material without setting firm plans for its release.

At the time, Brink envisioned something markedly different from In This Moment’s increasingly elaborate heavy music: a quieter, more intimate project built around her softer side, potentially without distorted guitars and with only tribal percussion.

Nearly nine years later, it appears that idea is finally moving forward.

The timing also gives In This Moment some breathing room following the arrival of Witch on August 28th. The band’s ninth studio album, and first for Better Noise Music, features collaborations with Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez, Kim Dracula and Kat Von D.

Brink described Witch upon its release as her “declaration of inner transformation”, with the record exploring pain, struggle and change through the theatrical world In This Moment have developed across their career.

Coven now offers Brink an opportunity to explore another side of that creativity while guitarist Chris Howorth and Brink take additional time with In This Moment’s tenth album.

For now, Brink hasn’t revealed when the first music from Coven will surface. But after years of talking about going solo, the project finally has a name, and a place in her plans.
