Macklemore says all three dates on his newly announced Free Palestine Tour sold out immediately, before he has revealed who will actually be joining him on stage.
The rapper announced shows in Dublin, Paris and London last week, with the short European run beginning at Dublin’s 3Arena on October 26th before heading to Paris’ Accor Arena on October 29th and London’s OVO Arena Wembley on October 30th (per Music News).
“All three shows sold out immediately,” Macklemore wrote on Instagram. “I’m honestly blown away.”
“We put these shows together fast and in community, believing that musicians can stand in solidarity with Palestine, use the stage to raise funds and show what collective action can look like.”
The concerts are being billed as Macklemore & Friends: Free Palestine, although the other artists involved are yet to be announced.
Promoters say proceeds from the shows will benefit a group of organisations providing humanitarian, medical, educational and other support to Palestinians. Further dates, including shows in the US, are also planned.
“When those in power try to silence our calls for liberation, art will always be a form of resistance,” Macklemore continued.
“Dublin, Paris and London, thank you for showing up the way you did. The response to these shows is another reminder of how many people across the world are standing together for a free Palestine. Lineups coming soon. Can’t wait to be together.”
The tour follows Macklemore’s removal from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after the rapper made pro-Palestinian remarks during a September performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Sheeran later said the decision had not been his, while tour promoter Messina Touring Group said venue owners had indicated they would not host forthcoming shows if Macklemore remained on the bill.
For now, the supporting lineups for Dublin, Paris and London remain the next piece of the puzzle.
Macklemore says those announcements are coming soon.
