BOWIE80 Will Turn 2027 Into a Year-Long David Bowie Celebration

Share

David Bowie’s estate has launched BOWIE80, a worldwide celebration that will run throughout what would have been the artist’s 80th year.

The programme begins now and will continue across 2027 with special events, releases, anniversary projects, collaborations and fan experiences. Each announcement will appear through a dedicated BOWIE80 platform carrying a new campaign logo.

The first confirmed project is a partnership with US department store Nordstrom. Bowie-themed installations will open at its Seattle, New York and Chicago flagships, alongside an online shop featuring limited collections created for the campaign.

That fashion connection is hardly decorative. David Bowie treated clothing, staging and character as part of the work itself, from Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane through to the severe tailoring of the Thin White Duke. The Nordstrom activation places that history at the front of the campaign rather than treating it as merchandise added after the fact.

The official announcement also promises audiovisual presentations and fan-focused activity around the world, with further details due throughout the remainder of 2026. Parlophone, Perryscope Productions and the Victoria and Albert Museum are among the organisations involved in the broader anniversary programme.

The V&A will continue touring material from Bowie’s vast archive across the UK in 2027. The collection contains approximately 90,000 items, including costumes, handwritten material, correspondence and notes documenting the way he planned performances and new work.

That depth gives BOWIE80 room to become something more considered than a sequence of reissues. Bowie’s archive shows how deliberately he connected sound, image, technology and performance, and the strongest anniversary projects will make those working methods visible rather than reducing them to iconography.

Australia already has its own Bowie celebration approaching. The Celebrating David Bowie tribute tour will bring Jeff Martin, Kav Temperley and iOTA together for a national run this November.

Bowie would have turned 80 on January 8, 2027. BOWIE80 has not revealed every release or event at launch, leaving the archive projects and live components to arrive gradually rather than collapsing the anniversary into one date.
