Bam Margera Will Reportedly Be In Jackass 5 (Well, Kind Of)

Bam Margera is reportedly set to return in Jackass 5, although it seems like it’ll only be in the form of never-before-seen archival footage.

Jackass 5 is officially on its way, with Johnny Knoxville confirming yesterday that the next movie would premiere in theatres in June – and lo and behold, Bam Margera will reportedly feature in it. Well, sort of.

According to reporting by Variety, Margera has signed an agreement to appear in the fifth Jackass movie in the form of previously unseen archival footage. Reporting suggests that he won’t be filming new stunts for the movie at this stage though. A spokesperson for Paramount declined to comment on the matter.

While old footage of Bam might not be the massive reunion Jackass fans were hoping for, it’s still a big step given the unsteady history between Margera and the rest of the crew. He was kicked from 2022’s Jackass Forever for allegedly testing positive to Adderall, violating the terms of a “wellness agreement” which included the need for regular drug and alcohol tests.

Margera claimed in a since-dropped lawsuit that he was “coerced” into the agreement during a stint in rehab in 2019, and was wrongfully fired from the fourth Jackass movie for the positive test. He said in the lawsuit that he had taken Adderall as a prescribed medication for a decade.

In 2022, Johnny Knoxville told Variety that he’d not spoken to Margera for over a year, saying that he loved him and “want him to get and stay well.” He didn’t rule out his return to Jackass, saying: “I only want him to get better. That’s the first step. He has to take that step and maintain that step.”

In July last year, Margera told CinemaBlend that “you couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another Jackass with them,” effectively ruling out that a return to the franchise would ever happen and saying “the damage has been done” after “what they did to me.”

It seems like the tides might be a-changing, so for the time being we’ll take archival footage of Bam in Jackass 5 over the complete omission of him entirely, and hope it leads the way to a full reconciliation down the line. In July, Tony Hawk described him as “in a really good place” after the last-minute addition of the former professional skateboarder in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.

The new Jackass movie will premiere in cinemas on June 26, with Johnny Knoxville yesterday confirming it in a post to social media. “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer Jackass is back!! We will see you in theatres June 26th. More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!!” the post reads. The movie will reportedly feature brand new stunts as well as previously unused archival footage that had been scrapped from other projects.

Beyond Knoxville and the reported inclusion of old footage with Bam, there’s not too much info out there about the remainder of the crew’s involvement in Jackass 5. Steve-O did comment on the announcement, saying “yeah dude!!!” while Gorilla Flicks (Jeff Tremaine) is a collaborator for the post, so at least some of the gang appears to be getting back together.
