Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden say their upcoming Australian tour isn’t for the money, which means the band can put their all into the few shows they plan to do in 2026.
Good Charlotte are “forgoing the temptation of profit” on their Motel Du Cap world tour, and instead putting all their money into the shows to bring fans a special experience.
Speaking with BLUNT, Joel and Benji Madden say their upcoming Australian tour (and Good Charlotte’s world tour as a whole) isn’t about a paycheck – and the whole band was on board with this approach. They also confirmed that they won’t be doing 50 to 100 shows in 2026, instead opting to do a handful of shows across the globe to celebrate their newest album (and the band’s legacy).
“The truth of the matter is, too, is none of us are doing this for money. The ugly word, right? There’s something about the freedom we have now where we’re like, okay, none of us need to make money off this,” Joel Madden says. “So, let’s put all the money into the show, and we don’t need to do 50 shows. The band is not gonna do 100 shows next year, or probably even 50.”
While not touring for the financial benefit is something plenty of other artists can’t do, that doesn’t mean Good Charlotte takes their unique position for granted. Benji Madden says they’re “very lucky that [they] can think that way…we wrote ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,’ we said it. We were like, ‘if you don’t want it, we’ll take it!'”
For Joel, the choice to put their all financially into their shows is something special. “We’re foregoing the temptation of profit to do something for a different reason,” he says. “There’s something about that to me that means a lot, that this whole band signed up for that they didn’t say, ‘I’ll only do it if I make this much’ or this no…this whole band signed up for a different experience than a paycheck.”
Good Charlotte’s goal on the tour is to “create a special moment,” both for the fans and the band themselves. “We’re very blessed to be able to do a tour and say we’re doing this tour, literally, to go do the tour,” Benji adds.
