In a season dominated by holiday cheer, a new Christmas movie is bringing some devilish fun. Dear Santa, a dark comedy starring Jack Black as Satan, might just be the unconventional Christmas film you didn’t know you needed. And it’s a wild ride from the start.
The premise is as simple as it is brilliant. A young boy, not exactly a spelling whiz, writes a letter to Santa, but one crucial error leads the letter straight to Hell. Enter Jack Black, who plays the dark lord himself, Satan. Rather than returning the letter, Satan decides to pay the kid a visit. What follows is a battle of wills as the demon tries to corrupt the boy, who, surprisingly, proves tough to sway.
Directed by Bobby Farrelly and co-written by Bobby and Peter Farrelly, Dear Santa brings the brothers back together with Black, who starred in their 2001 comedy Shallow Hal. The Farrellys’ signature brand of humor is alive and well in this absurd take on the holidays, promising a blend of chaos, dark humor, and festive mischief.
Dear Santa will premiere on Paramount+ on November 25. If you don’t have the streaming service, it will also be available on digital platforms. The film’s official synopsis promises plenty of laughs: “When a young boy mails his Christmas wish list to Santa with one crucial spelling error, a devilish Jack Black arrives to wreak havoc on the holidays. From the hilarious minds behind Dumb & Dumber, Christmas is about to go up in flames.”
If you’re a fan of dark Christmas classics like Bad Santa or It’s a Wonderful Life, Dear Santa might just become your new go-to holiday watch. Fingers crossed it’s more naughty than nice.
