Gallery: Pierce The Veil Bring Sold Out Energy To Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion

Share

Pierce The Veil’s Sydney show at Hordern Pavilion last night felt less like a nostalgia run and more like a passing of the torch.

San Diego post-hardcore veterans Pierce The Veil played to a sold out, all ages crowd, and if there was any doubt about their staying power, it didn’t last long.

Photographer James Miller clocked it immediately, the crowd wasn’t just longtime fans reliving their teenage years. It was younger faces, front row and screaming every word, proving these songs have outlived the era they were born in.

The room filled early and didn’t let up, by the time the band hit the stage, Hordern was already pushing toward breaking point.

A setlist built for impact

Pierce The Veil wasted no time ripping into ‘Death of an Executioner’, launching a set that balanced newer material with the cuts that built their reputation. ‘Bulls in the Bronx’ and ‘Pass the Nirvana’ hit hard, while deeper emotional pulls like ‘I’m Low on Gas and You Need a Jacket’ kept the crowd locked in.

A brief nod to Pixies’ ‘Where Is My Mind?’ slipped into the set as a snippet, but the focus stayed firmly on their own catalogue. Tracks like ‘Hell Above’, ‘Emergency Contact’, and ‘Circles’ landed with precision, each one feeding the momentum rather than breaking it.

Controlled chaos on stage

According to Miller, the band’s performance was relentless.

‘The crowd was insane, sold out venue. The performance was unreal, stage presence was great, constantly moving around and jumping. Was definitely a gig that was worth going to’

That constant movement translated, the band didn’t linger. They pushed forward, feeding off the crowd’s energy rather than trying to control it.

A legacy still evolving

By the time the encore hit with ‘Disasterology’, ‘Hold On Till May’, and the inevitable ‘King for a Day’, the night felt less like a peak and more like proof of longevity.

Pierce The Veil aren’t just surviving off past success, they’re still pulling new fans into their orbit, still packing rooms, and still delivering live sets that justify the hype without needing to inflate it.

With Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth still ahead, night one in Sydney set a high bar.
