A New ‘Control’ Trademark Stirs Speculation A Sequel Will Be Announced At The Game Awards

A trademark for Control: Resonant has been registered in Europe, leading fans of the trippy sci-fi horror to believe developers Remedy are gearing up to announce a sequel to the 2019 game.

Fans of the SCP-inspired shooter Control are boarding hype trains, as a new trademark for Control: Resonant has been spotted.

Registered in Europe, the new trademark could be a sign that developers Remedy are gearing up to officially announce a new game in the series at next month’s Game Awards.

Spotted by MP1st, Control: Resonant has been classified under tags such as video game services, miscellaneous products and the production of entertainment in the form of TV series and cinematographic films.

The publication also notes that Remedy isn’t mentioned in the trademark’s registration; however, Nordia Attorneys at Law is. While this might deflate some enthusiasm, this is the same firm Remedy has used for its previous trademarks.

While a sequel to everyone’s favourite playable Porcupine Tree music video could be likely, it’s tough to know what the trademark could be for. Remedy confirmed that it was officially working on a Control sequel back in 2022, stating it would be an “unexpected journey”. In August last year, the company stated that “important” Control 2 features were now in “playable form”.

A major Control character would also appear as an easter egg in the developer’s most recent game, Alan Wake 2‘s DLC The Lake House, hinting at a sequel.

Last year, Remedy also announced plans for TV and film adaptations for Control and Alan Wake. In the same announcement, Remedy confirmed that video game publisher Annapurna Games was helping to fund a Control sequel. So another credible theory is that the trademark could be for this adaptation.

Another argument against the trademark being for the game is that Remedy’s multiplayer Control spin-off, FBC: Firebreak, was responsible for Remedy’s reported operating loss of €16.4 million in Q3 of 2025.

At the same time, if that the FBC: Firebreak‘s poor performance had impacted Control 2, it’s unlikely they would register a new trademark.

Still, this is only speculation. At the very least, it’s a decent it’s something you can add to your prospective Game Awards bingo sheet.
