Amyl And The Sniffers Photo Dispute: Court Urges Amy Taylor And Photographer To Explore Settlement

At a hearing today, Nelson told Rolling Stone AU/NZ that the court issued a tentative ruling on pending motions and instructed both parties to attempt to resolve the matter within a short timeframe.

The dispute centres on a photographic series of Taylor titled Champagne Problems, published in Vogue Portugal in July 2025. Nelson maintains she is the creator and sole copyright holder of the images, which have since become the subject of a wider copyright and publicity rights dispute.

“I am the copyright holder of the images, and there was no written agreement restricting my ability to sell fine-art prints of my work,” Nelson previously said in a statement to Blunt.

Taylor’s lawsuit alleges the photos were only authorised for editorial use and not for commercial sale as fine-art prints, after Nelson later offered prints for sale on her website.

Nelson has continued to defend her position.

“This case has always been about the fundamental rights of artists to create, publish, and control their own work without facing meritless legal pressure,” she told Rolling Stone AU/NZ.

“I independently produced and funded this series, and I stand behind my rights as the copyright holder.”

She added that the matter remains ongoing, including her copyright infringement claims arising from what she describes as unauthorised use of the images.

Blunt previously published the photo series at the centre of the dispute, with a selection of images embedded below.

Earlier this month, a civil harassment restraining order sought by Nelson was declined by the court. She has also filed an anti-SLAPP motion, arguing that Taylor’s claims infringe on her First Amendment rights.
