Bring Me The Horizon have finally done it. After months of teasing, the Sheffield wrecking crew performed their now-iconic cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” live for the first time in Cologne—and yes, it went off.
Back in January, BMTH dropped their moody, industrial-flavoured take on the Britpop staple as part of the Spotify Singles series. It was one of those curveballs that probably should’ve caused a meltdown… but somehow didn’t. Even Liam Gallagher gave it his blessing, calling it “absolutely incredible” and tweeting “I fucking LOVE it.”
Now, ahead of their Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park appearances, the band warmed up with a one-off show at Cologne’s Palladium—and “Wonderwall” made its way onto the setlist.
“I’m quite excited to play this,” Oli Sykes told the crowd before launching into it. “Be kind to us… if you know the words, sing as loud as you can.” Spoiler: they did.
And the performance? It hits. This isn’t a soft-touch homage. It’s warped, riff-heavy and soaked in BMTH’s signature theatrical gloom. If the original was a festival singalong for your older brother, this is the version he screams along to during his post-divorce era.
The band also recreated the iconic video with Matt Kean reading a newspaper while the rest of them sit deadpan in a line. Profits from the track go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, because apparently metalcore heartthrobs have feelings now.
Speaking to the UK’s NME, Sykes later explained their decision to tackle such a well-known track: “Usually we pick obscure shit, but this time we thought—fuck it. Let’s reimagine something universal.” Mat Nicholls added, “We were ready for Liam to rinse us, but he was actually sound about it.”
BMTH headline Reading & Leeds later this summer, and they’re also headed to North America this autumn. Until then, “Wonderwall” has officially entered their canon and it kind of slaps.
