London punk- outfit Chubby and The Gang have seemingly pulled the pin.
The London punk outfit posted a farewell message overnight (31 March), hinting at a breakup after six years of chaotic, high-energy output.
“Every dog has his day, ours came and went away,” the band wrote on social media. “Thank you for the good times, sorry for the bad ones, and for a great six years. Who fuckin loves ya? Chubby does.”
While no official statement has since followed the post reads like the end. They also confirmed that merch would remain available — the only sign of activity going forward.
Formed in 2019, Chubby and The Gang started as a kind of punk supergroup, led by Charlie “Chubby Charles” Manning-Walker and rounded out by players from the UK hardcore circuit — including members of Arms Race, Vile Spirit, and Gutter Knife. Over time, though, the lineup shifted. By late 2022, Manning-Walker had replaced the original members and was essentially running it solo.
Still, under the Chubby and The Gang banner, the band released three full-length albums: Speed Kills (2020), The Mutt’s Nuts (2021), and And Then There Was… (2024). They also dropped the Labour of Love EP in 2022 and the oddball holiday single ‘A Christmas Extravaganza’ that same year.
Their debut, Speed Kills, landed on several best-of lists and helped reignite interest in UK street punk with its tight blend of hardcore, pub rock and classic oi!. Follow-up The Mutt’s Nuts showed more range — a cleaner sound without sanding down the rough edges.
While the project was always tied to Manning-Walker’s vision, it still captured lightning for a minute. The band’s no-frills ethos, working-class roots, and constant motion struck a chord when few others were delivering punk with that kind of urgency.
If this is the end, they’ve left a solid legacy: three records, no major compromises, and no fake mystique. Just noise, grit and enough heart to make things matter.
