Sum 41 front man Deryck Whibley has shared his glowing praise for Oasis following their recent show at London’s Wembley Stadium.
He later called it “a special night” and one of the best live experiences he’s witnessed.
In a video clip posted to his social media, Whibley reflected on the atmosphere around the city in the days leading up to the gig, making it clear this wasn’t just any concert. “Since the Whibley hails from London, that’s where I’m going,” he said, adding with a grin that he had no intention of missing it. Though Canadian by birth, Whibley spent parts of his life in the UK and has long spoken about his love for British music — Oasis clearly sits high on that list.
“It was such an incredible show,” he said. “I can’t express enough how great it was.” From the band’s performance to the crowd’s energy, Whibley made it clear this wasn’t just a nostalgic cash-in. “Number one, they sound amazing. They played the best songs, the setlist was great.”
But what really struck him was the electric atmosphere around the entire city. “You hear Oasis music coming out of restaurants and bars. Everyone’s wearing Oasis merch, or dressed like Oasis. The whole vibe of the city felt like it was Oasis time,” he said, describing a kind of cultural takeover that extended far beyond the stadium gates.
“The day of the show, from the second they started, there was so much love in the stadium,” he continued. “The energy was insane in a happy, love way. Everyone was singing every song so loud.”
Whibley ended his message with a heartfelt thank you to the band: “What a special night I got to witness. So thank you Oasis for puttin’ on a fucking great show.”
With Sum 41 preparing for their farewell tour, Whibley seems to be soaking up as many iconic moments as possible. And by the sounds of it, Oasis delivered one he won’t forget.
