American thrash metal band Exodus have just announced a major lineup shakeup. They have now parted ways with longtime vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and are welcoming back former frontman Rob Dukes. The band shared the news on social media on January 15, marking the end of an era and the start of a new chapter for the thrash legends.
“Exodus have parted ways with Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza,” the band’s statement reads. “We thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time. We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does.”
The post also expressed excitement about Dukes’ return to the fold. “We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us, and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can. Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned, and the beatings will continue.”
Souza originally joined Exodus in 1986, stepping in after Paul Baloff, and made his debut on Pleasures of the Flesh. Over the years, Souza’s distinct snarling vocals became synonymous with the band’s sound. His tenure included stints in the late ’80s, early 2000s, and most recently from 2014 to 2025. In total, Souza contributed to seven of the band’s studio albums, solidifying his legacy in Exodus’ thrash-heavy history.
Rob Dukes, on the other hand, fronted the band from 2005 to 2014, bringing a more aggressive and modern edge to Exodus’ sound. During his time, Dukes lent his voice to four studio albums, including Shovel Headed Kill Machine and Exhibit B: The Human Condition. Fans of the band’s mid-2000s material will undoubtedly be eager to see Dukes back in action.
While Souza hasn’t yet commented on his departure, Exodus made it clear that their momentum isn’t slowing down. With Dukes back at the helm, the band is pressing forward on their new album and gearing up for their scheduled 2025 shows.
For fans, this lineup change signals both a goodbye to a familiar voice and the resurgence of an era defined by Dukes’ explosive energy. As Exodus put it, “The beatings will continue.” Stay tuned—this next chapter promises to be as brutal as ever.
