Jack White has shared that his mother, Teresa Gillis, has passed away at the age of 95.
Guitarist and singer Jack White has shared news that his mother, Teresa Gillis, has passed away at the age of 95.
The frontman would confirm the passing of his mother on Instagram, sharing a photo of Gillis taken from one of his shows with the caption: “Rest in peace with the Lord”.
Mother of 10 children, Gillis would give birth to White at the age of 45, marking her seventh son.
Gillis would often appear at White’s shows, where the frontman would frequently shout out his mother while performing. He would even bring her on stage during his concert at Little Caesars Arena in 2018 to sing the White Stripes track ‘Hotel Yorba’. He would also dedicate the track to her at a 2023 show, while she was in attendance, watching from the balcony.
At a 2018 concert in Poland, White would instruct the crowd to sing the Polish birthday song, ‘Sto Lat’, to honour his mother’s 88th birthday that week.
According to the Detroit News, Gillis once worked as an usher at the Masonic Temple in Detroit and later served as a secretary for the Archdiocese.
Earlier today, White was confirmed to be the musical guest for the upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live, which is set to feature Jack Black as host.
White last appeared as a musical guest in 2023, with Woody Harrelson as the guest. He would perform a medley of the tracks ‘Taking Me Back’ and ‘Fear of the Dawn’ taken from his 2022 album, Fear of the Dawn. He would also perform the song ‘A Tip From Me To You’, taken from his second album, Entering Heaven Alive, released that same year.
White previously filled in for Morgan Wallen as a last-minute guest in 2020, who was disinvited for breaching COVID protocols.
