It’s Måneskin’s world and we’re just living in it, an assertion made abundantly clear by the fact that since they won Eurovision back in May, the hype for the Italian rock band hasn’t died off a single bit. After a whirlwind trip around Europe playing shows, they’ve shared their much-anticipated visuals for viral track ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ today, which you can check out below. As teased by Måneskin earlier in the week, it’s laden with relationship contrasts and extremes, culminating in a clip that’s as perfectly voyeuristic and provocative as director Simone Bozzelli intended.
The song is taken from Måneskin’s second studio album, Teatro d’ira: Vol. I (translating to “theatre of wrath”), which we recently named as one of our favourite records of 2021 so far. With it, the band have transcended language barriers, as songs in both English and Italian dominate charts worldwide, making Måneskin the first Eurovision winners since Celine Dion to have two songs in the UK Top 40 and a Top 10 hit with a non-contest song, in addition to seeing them remain on charts here in Australia months on from the competition. Explaining their intentions with their last full-length, Måneskin commented the following: “It will be a record out of the canons, we are aware of it but we screwed it up to give you the most sincere and real version of ourselves, because the music is the only thing that matters, and this time it will be only her to speak.”
It’s been reported by Italian media that Måneskin will have new material coming before the year is out, but if you’re looking for something to keep occupied with in the meantime, you can check out their recent RDS Showcase live performance here. There’s one certainty about Måneskin, and it’s that there’s no stopping them now, and we, for one, can’t wait to see what they do next.
