My Chemical Romance have reportedly reached an agreement over the cheerleader costumes used during their Hollywood Bowl shows, allowing the dancers to remain part of the production as long as their outfits change.
According to TMZ, the band and the company behind the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have reached an agreement ahead of a scheduled court hearing, avoiding a legal showdown over uniforms worn by dancers during MCR’s recent performances.
The reported compromise follows legal action brought by Pro Silver Star Ltd., which owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand. As reported earlier this week, the company argued that the blue and white costumes resembled its distinctive uniforms closely enough to potentially mislead audiences into believing the dancers were associated with the cheerleading squad.
The outfits appeared during ‘Teenagers’ at the Hollywood Bowl, where dancers performed a cheerleading routine before picking up prop rifles and taking part in a staged firefight that ended with several performers depicted being shot.
Despite the imagery, Pro Silver Star wasn’t asking the band to remove the sequence from their live show. According to court documents reviewed by TheWrap, the company’s objection was specifically directed at the uniforms rather than MCR’s music, choreography, political message or use of armed characters.
That distinction appears to have carried through to the reported agreement, with TMZ stating that the band can continue featuring cheerleaders onstage, provided they stop wearing costumes resembling those of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
The outlet reports that an agreement was reached before the scheduled hearing, although neither party has publicly confirmed the terms and it remains unclear whether the wider legal proceedings have formally concluded.
My Chemical Romance still have two Hollywood Bowl performances ahead of them on October 30th and 31st, as they continue celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade.
Whether the dancers will appear in entirely new costumes or modified versions of their existing outfits hasn’t been confirmed, but fans attending those final shows should get their answer when the production returns to the stage.
