American rockers My Morning Jacket are back with a fresh chapter. The band has announced their upcoming album is, set for release on March 21 via ATO Records. Alongside the announcement, they’ve unveiled the lead single, “Time Waited,” giving fans a first taste of what’s to come.
The album marks a big shift for My Morning Jacket, with production now being handled by Brendan O’Brien. This marks a decidedly big change for frontman Jim James, who has historically steered the ship himself. Speaking about the collaboration, James shared, “Up until now I’ve never been able to let go and allow someone else to steer the ship. But in the end, I enjoyed the process maybe more than I ever have before.”
The record features 10 new tracks, born out of two exploratory writing sessions. James described the songs as an effort “to connect with something beyond the human experiment.”
The first single, “Time Waited,” is classic My Morning Jacket with a twist. It starts with a hypnotic piano loop before building into an anthemic indie rock arrangement. James’ soaring vocals on the bridge bring a signature emotional punch. Lyrically, the track plays with the concept of time’s flexibility. “Especially if we are following our hearts, the universe and time itself can flow to work with us,” James explained.
The Danny Clinch-directed video for “Time Waited” is as meditative as the song, capturing its atmospheric vibe. Fans can stream it now and soak in the first taste of the new album.
On top of the album news, My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday festival is set to return in 2025. Running April 3–5 in Miramar Beach, Florida, the three-day event will feature nightly headlining sets from the band, alongside performances by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dinosaur Jr., Devon Gilfillian, and more.
With is and One Big Holiday on the horizon, My Morning Jacket are gearing up for a pretty exciting 2025. For fans of the band’s soaring melodies and heartfelt explorations, this is the start of something really worth waiting for.
So mark your calendars—March 21 is just around the corner.
