I come bearing the unfortunate news that New Bloom Fest’s Brisbane date has been cancelled.
The cancellation is due to the impending Tropical Cyclone Alfred which is currently sweeping through Queensland. The promoters have since left made a statement on the cancellation:
NEW BLOOM FEST regrets to inform that due to the impending impact of Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Queensland and Northern New South Wales, the Brisbane leg of NEW BLOOM FEST will be cancelled. The safety and well-being of all of our attendees, bands and staff are of utmost priority, and ticket holders will be contacted directly via Ticketmaster regarding the cancellation and refunds.
New Bloom Fest has since also confirmed that Drain’s headline sideshow with One Step Closer on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 6 March has also been cancelled. Sweet Pill’s headline sideshow in Brisbane on Friday 7 March has also since been cancelled. Those who had tickets for these performances will be contacted by either Oztix or Ticketmaster in the coming days for refunds.
It’s not all bad news though. Those who still have tickets for the Melbourne and Sydney dates will still be able to attend the festival. There, all the same acts on the original lineup will be playing. This includes: Basement, Balance and Composure, Drain, One Step Closer, Sweet Pill and Glitterer.
Many of these acts are also still due to play their own sideshows around the country. Basement are currently on a run of headline shows. Balance and Composure are set to be joined by Glitterer for shows in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne. Drain are also performing with One Step Closer in Hobart, Wellington and Auckland next week. So, at least I don’t come bearing all bad news. There is an ounce of light at the end of tunnel.
In the meantime, we hope everyone up there in Queensland is staying safe (and dry).
