A plane registered to a company linked to Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil was involved in a fatal crash at Scottsdale Municipal Airport on Monday, February 10.
Authorities confirmed that one person was killed when a Learjet 35A veered off the runway and collided with a Gulfstream 200 business jet.
In addition to the fatality, one person was trapped inside one of the planes for an extended period. Three others were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky has since addressed the incident, stating, “Today, Scottsdale sadly experienced an aircraft accident at our airport. Based on the information provided thus far, it appears at least one person is dead after two jets collided on the runway.”
According to local reports, the Learjet 35A is registered to Chromed In Hollywood, a company based in Franklin, Tennessee, with Vince Neil listed as a principal agent. The plane itself is registered in Wyoming.
The FAA released a statement confirming the details. “A Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona around 2:45 p.m. local time Monday, Feb. 10.”
It has since been confirmed that neither Neil nor his associates were onboard at the time of the crash. It is alleged, however, that his girlfriend Rain and her friend Ashley were. Both are reported to have survived the incident.
A 1985 Learjet 35A previously linked to Neil was reportedly up for sale a few years ago. According to the Aviation Safety Network though, the plane involved in this crash is a 1989 model.
Mötley Crüe have since commented on the incident via an official statement on their social media channels:
