Two decades after How to Save a Life turned them into unlikely pop-rock heroes, The Fray are finally heading back to Australia.
The band will tour nationally this December as part of their How to Save a Life 20th Anniversary Tour. It marks 20 years since their debut album took over charts, soundtracked a thousand breakups, and became Grey’s Anatomy’s unofficial theme song. Or in my case, became my go- to ‘stare out the window and pretend I’m in a music video’ song.
The four-show run kicks off in Perth on December 3, with stops in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne to follow.
The Fray’s 2005 debut album was inescapable. It also earnt them four GRAMMY nominations. The title track alone spent 58 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
This tour marks the band’s first proper Australian return in over a decade. It’s built for fans who wore out their iPods and still know every word. But it’s not just a nostalgia trip—they’re also teasing new music later this year.
“We wrote these songs in basements and barns, dreaming about one day playing them for the world,” said guitarist and co-vocalist Joe King. “To still be doing that 20 years later is surreal.”
The Fray aren’t a band known for noise or spectacle. Their legacy is built on piano-driven hooks, straight-up emotion, and songs that somehow still hit years later. Whether you were a teen in 2005 or just discovering them now, this tour is a rare chance to see an era-defining record performed live from front to back.
Presale for the tickets starts on March 27 at 10:00am local time. General sale for the tickets begins at April 1 at 10:00am local time. Tickets can be purchased here.
