What happens when two of the UK’s most chaotic rock bands end up rehearsing next door to each other? Apparently, a full-blown jam session breaks out—and no one bothers asking permission.
Ahead of their respective European tours, the Sex Pistols and Primal Scream found themselves sharing a rehearsal space. Rather than mind their own business, they did what any self-respecting punk-adjacent legends would do: they crashed each other’s practices and started playing each other’s songs.
Scream bassist Simone Marie Butler shared footage of the glorious mess on Instagram. The first clip sees Primal Scream ripping through their 1994 anthem ‘Rocks’ when the door swings open and in stroll the Pistols. Drummer Paul Cook grabs a pair of maracas. Glen Matlock gets on the tambourine. Steve Jones picks up a guitar. Bobby Gillespie keeps it cool, like this sort of thing happens all the time.
In another clip, Gillespie hands a guitar to Jones and jumps on vocals. Later, Gillespie flips the script and takes over frontman duties for the Pistols—replacing Frank Carter mid-song like it’s just another Tuesday.
Butler captioned the post: “The door pushed open during ‘Rocks’ and in they danced.” Classic.
Fans in the comments lost it. “New supergroup!” one wrote. “How did the world survive such a clash of fucking cool people?” said another. Someone even suggested a name: “The Sex Scream.” Honestly? Not bad.
Both bands are now deep into tour season. Primal Scream are supporting their new record Come Ahead, while the Pistols (with Frank Carter out front) are gearing up for Download Festival this Saturday, plus more dates across the UK and North America. Tickets are still out there if you know where to look.
Meanwhile, John Lydon is still being, well, Lydon. He’s recently taken a swing at Carter, telling him: “You’re not Johnny Rotten, I am.” But I don’t think anyone’s that bothered, not anymore at least.
