Thornhill took over Triple J’s ‘Live A Version’ this morning, covering Lady Gaga’s iconic 2009 hit ‘Paparazzi’.

Thornhill took to Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’ this morning, performing their track ‘nerv’ and covering Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’.

It’s got everything you’d want from the band: shoegaze-inspired riffs, vocalist Jacob Charlton’s emotional falsetto, and a crushing breakdown in the bridge.

You can check it out below.

In an interview with Triple J, guitarist Ethan McCann went on to praise Gaga, sharing, “I feel like Gaga’s just such a timeless popstar.”

“In a genre that’s so reliant on trend, she’s classic. She’s up there with Madonna and stuff.”

Singer Jacob Charlton also provided some insight on how they worked on their own rendition of the track, admitting it was a bit of a challenge. “We kind of struggled to make a pop song into a band-y song,” Charlton said.

“Because we want everybody to have something they could do. So I think they kind of all stay as a similar drum beat and stay as a similar bassline and stuff.”

“It was interesting to figure out where we wanted it to have a heavy moment. But I think that came pretty naturally with some of the bridge work.”

The Melbourne metal outfit dropped their third album Bodies, back in April. In a statement, the band described the album as one that “Thrives on spontaneity and freedom, foregoing rigid concepts in favour of pure, in-your-face authenticity. It’s less about delivering a carefully constructed narrative and more about creating a visceral, open-ended experience.” they said.

BODIES serves as a sonic moodboard – a collection of feelings and vibes – intentionally left open to interpretation. It has an upbeat and almost celebratory, party energy at times, but also retains all the emotion and intensity Thornhill are known for, making it our heaviest and most explosive work to date.”
