Following seven wild years, a cult-classic debut album and countless hours on stage, purveyors of blackened rock n’ roll, Pagan, will be hanging up their leads and calling it a day.
The group took to socials to make the announcement this dreary Monday morning. Sticking to their well-earned cult-leader narrative, the band heralded their demise by confirming Pagan “passed away peacefully in their home of Melbourne today, aged seven glorious years“.
Early into their career, Pagan earned a rep as habitual skull-crushers, with a rough-and-tumble live show that inspired and terrified in equal parts – as all cult-leaders worth their salt should. In 2018, they released their debut full length record. The eponymous offering to the gods of sonic darkness would immediately become a classic in the scene both locally and internationally.
It’s not all doom and gloom, however, with Pagan announcing plans for one final bash, “one to end all ceremonies, ” giving the bands adoring following of a proper setting in which to bid them adieu. The show will take place in February with support from Totally Unicorn and Blind Girls.

“A N O B I T U A R Y.
Dearly Beloved,
With a heavy heart, we announce the death of the rock and roll band Pagan who passed away peacefully in their home of Melbourne today, aged seven glorious years. The band leave behind a cult of beautiful followers and friends, a critically acclaimed album; Black Wash and memories of some of the wildest tours, shows, parties, late nights and dance floors imaginable; vivid to some, vague to many, but fond to all.
The Pagan family (sister, Nikki Brumen and brothers, Matthew Marasco, Xavier Santilli and Daniel Bonnici) would like to extend its truest thanks and praise to the wonderful team of exceptional individuals; booking agents, record labels, publicists, recording engineers, visual artists, promoters and managers who believed in the band enough to want to play a part in keeping the band alive and well for so long. Each of you have been instrumental in developing the band’s music, ideas and messages to reach some unimaginable heights and places that only existed in their dreams.
Above all else, the family’s eternal love and gratitude is sent to each and every single member of the Pagan cult. Without your faith, support and heart, there simply is no cult. Thank you and bless your wonderful souls to no end.
Details of a final ceremony; one to end all ceremonies, will be announced this evening at the stroke of 6:00pm (AEDT). Friends, family and cult members alike are encouraged to attend and pay their respects to celebrate the life, death and legacy of Pagan for one last time.
