Brent Hinds, the legendary guitarist and co-founder of Mastodon, has passed away at the age of 51. Members of Trivium, Lamb of God, Opeth and more have since taken to social media to pay tribute to the late icon.

Mastodon co-founder and former guitarist Brent Hinds has passed away aged 51, following a tragic motorcycle accident.

Atlanta police shared a statement that Hinds had died after a car collided with his Harley-Davidson motorcycle late Wednesday night.

The rock and metal community have been waking up to the news of Hinds’ passing, and has been offering their condolences across social media.

Hinds, alongside bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor would find Mastodon in 2000.

Over the years, the guitarist would record eight studio albums with the band, netting them six Grammy nominations and winning a Grammy Award in 2017 for Best Metal Performance for ‘Sultan’s Curse’ from the album Emperor of Sand.

Hinds and Mastodon went their separate ways in March earlier this year. At the time, they had said they had “mutually decided to part ways.” However, Hinds would later make comments that would contradict this statement.

Mastodon, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Matthew Heafy, and more have all shared touching words about Hinds today. You can read their tributes, and more below.
