Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to receive a free expansion pack, which will add new locations and bosses for fans wanting to flex their broken builds in the late game.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of 2025’s best games so far, is set to receive a free expansion pack in the near future.
The announcement comes after the critically acclaimed RPG has sold over five million copies, with developers at Sandfall Interactive teasing a free update to celebrate the milestone. Details are sparse, but what has been confirmed is that the new update will add new locations and bosses, which should hopefully add more to the late-game experience.
Here’s everything that the devs have teased so far:
- A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover.
- Challenging, new boss battle for late-game players to overcome.
- New costumes for each member of the Expedition.
- New text and UI game localisations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian.
- Plus, even more surprises fans can look forward to.
While I’m sad to see no new Gestral beach missions on that list, I’m holding out hope.
Creative director Guillaume Broche would say in a press release, “The response to our game has been nothing short of incredible. We spent years on our dream project, and to know it has resonated with fans around the world in such a powerful way is both wonderful and overwhelming,” they’d write.
“We’re so grateful to our fans for their love of the world we created, for sharing their own fan art and music covers, for wearing their best Baguette cosplays to conventions, and for being incredibly supportive of our game. We hope the update we’re working on will act as a ‘thank you’ to those fans for their support–please be patient while our team work hard on bringing you something worth the wait.”
Broche had previously teased that the team “may be cooking” up some DLC back in August and admitted that the team potentially had a post-launch plan; however, at the time, it was “a bit too soon to say.”
I’d be pleasantly surprised if we get anything before the end of the year. While I’m sure Sandfall had ideas in the oven for future content before release, I’d be surprised if those ideas were far along in development. Especially so, given that Sandfall Interactive are a notoriously small team.
For that reason alone, I’m more than happy to wait and let the team take their time developing those new environments and boss battles. If they can create something as chaotic and fun as the Simon boss fight, I’ll be a very happy boy indeed.
