Courtney Barnett details new album, shares single

Share

You would be forgiven if you missed Courtney Barnett teasing her next chapter on her socials yesterday what with the excessive press conferences and indefinite lockdowns, but nonetheless, the time has come. Interrupting a period otherwise endlessly occupied with doom and gloom, Barnett has announced that her third studio album, Things Take Time, Take Time, will be out on November 12th via Milk! Records/Remote Control Records.

Fans won’t have to wait until November to get a sneak peek into the full-length, with Barnett sharing album opener ‘Rae Street’ to kick off the celebrations already. It serves double duty as the album opener to Things Take Time, Take Time in addition to being its lead single, marking it as the perfect cut to offer insight into Barnett’s vision for the release. Barnett’s return is characterised by her much-prized candour, as she refines her ability to take a slice out of the best and worst parts of life and offer it up to listeners on a silver platter of indie glory.

Written over two years and recorded in the transition period between 2020 and early 2021, Barnett worked across Sydney, Northern NSW and Melbourne to piece together Things Take Time, Take Time. She partnered with previous partner in crime and producer/drummer Stella Mozgawa for the affair, who made her bones serving as the drummer of Warpaint since 2009. In addition to that, Mozgawa has become somewhat of a musical legend herself, with collaborations with Kurt Vile, Cate Le Bon, Regina Spektor, The xx and Phantogram all in her wake. Needless to say, this LP is going to be the something special we need to get us through the rest of the year, and it’s shaping up to be one hell of a saving grace.
