Groove metal veterans DevilDriver have unleashed another taste of their upcoming album Strike and Kill, dropping the ferocious new single Dead in the Water alongside an accompanying music video.
The track follows the success of lead single Dig Your Own Grave, which quickly gained momentum across streaming platforms, landed heavy rotation on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal and climbed the Metal Contraband charts shortly after release.
Where Dig Your Own Grave introduced the album’s aggressive tone, Dead in the Water dives even deeper into DevilDriver’s signature blend of crushing groove metal, melodic death metal influences and blackened atmospheres.
Built on relentless blast beats, razor-sharp guitar work and Dez Fafara’s unmistakable vocal attack, the song balances brutality with an unexpectedly uplifting message. Check it out below:

On the track
Speaking about the track, Fafara revealed it emerged from one of the darkest periods of his life:
“This is one of the most positive songs I’ve ever written lyrically, coming from a very dark time straight into blinding light. I needed to empower others to do the same as I did, and tell them to ‘stay the course,’ life turns around if given the chance to flourish. The vibe musically on this is very old school DEVILDRIVER and the entire band is cracking hard here, if you’re a long-time listener you’re gonna love this one! Enjoy!”
Set for release on July 10th via Napalm Records, Strike and Kill arrives following the success of the band’s acclaimed Dealing With Demons double album cycle, the new record promises everything longtime fans have come to expect from DevilDriver, combining thunderous grooves, melodic guitar passages, blackened textures and uncompromising intensity.
The album showcases standout performances from guitarists Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold, drummer Davier Ortega Perez and bassist Jon Miller, all anchored by Fafara’s commanding presence at the front of the band.
