Melbourne’s 170 Russell was at full tilt on Wednesday night as Stray From The Path tore through their final Melbourne show, delivering the kind of chaos only a farewell tour can inspire.
Diamond Construct set the tone early, their crushing riffs and relentless energy snapping the room to attention. Orthodox followed, marking their first time on Australian soil with a punishing set that hit as heavy as their reputation promised. By the time the house lights dimmed for Stray From The Path, the venue was already a powder keg, primed for the ignition about to come.
And ignite it did. The New York metallic hardcore veterans stormed the stage and wasted no time unleashing into a career-spanning set. From fresh cuts off Stray From The Path’s newest (and final) album Clockworked to long-time anthems, every track was a rallying cry. The pit was a blur of bodies, the balcony shaking with chants and stomps. Vocalist Drew Dijorio had the crowd in the palm of his hand, spitting venom and passion while fans hurled every lyric right back.
Circle pits widened, crowd surfers flew, and the atmosphere never dipped below fever pitch. It was the sound of a band giving everything they had left, and a crowd determined to meet them with equal intensity. By the time ‘Guillotine’ and ‘First World Problem Child‘ closed the night, the walls of 170 Russell had absorbed every ounce of rage, joy, and release.
For Stray From The Path, it was a goodbye both ferocious and fitting. For Melbourne, it was a night that will echo long after the amps went silent.
