UK Prog metal group Haken has announced that long-term member Charlie Griffiths and bassist Connor Green have left the band.
Progressive metal titans Haken have announced that guitarist Charlie Griffiths and bassist Connor Green have left the band.
The band would release a full statement last night (December 5) confirming the departure, writing:
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the departure of Charlie Griffiths and Conner Green from Haken. We are tremendously grateful for the time we’ve spent together, creating music and touring the world, achieving things we thought weren’t possible. Both Charlie and Conner are irreplaceable, as musicians and individuals, and they have given so much to make this band what it is today. We cannot thank them enough, but we wish them all the best with any future endeavours. They will always be a part of the Haken family. New music coming this year.”
Speculation had been brewing among fans that something was amidst after Haken surprisingly cancelled both their appearance at Euroblast Festival, along with live dates in support of Coheed And Cambria last year.
Griffiths would join Haken in 2008 and has played on every album the band has released. Connor Green would join the band in 2014 after the band conducted a viral online search to replace Thomas MacLean, who left following the release of the band’s third album, The Mountain.
In 2022, Griffiths would release his solo album Tiktaalika, which also featured Green on bass. Per Griffith’s own description, TikTaalika was a love-letter to the guitarist’s admiration for 80s thrash, 90s tech-metal and alternative rock.
Haken would spend 2024 promoting their 2023 album, Fauna, by performing extensive “An Evening With” shows worldwide. These shows would feature the prog giants playing two sets: the first performing Fauna in full, and the second featuring a selection of deep cuts from the band’s discography. The band would release the live album Liveforms: An Evening with Haken to commemorate this tour.
