IKEA are releasing affordable gaming furniture

Share

Flatpack kings IKEA are getting in on the gaming craze, announcing their own line of budget gaming accessories. The Swedish retail giants and meatball lovers are teaming up with one of the leading brands in the gaming industry, ASUS Republic of Games (ROG), for a collection of 30 products sure to enhance any gamer’s home setup.

IKEA has yet to elaborate on what the collection will entail, but did reveal through a statement that the folks at the IKEA Product Development Centre in Shanghai will be in charge of “developing the new range of affordable and ergonomic gaming furniture and accessories, designed to increase performance while also blending in…” This hints at the products trading the usual black and fluro colours of most gaming accessories for more neutral tones that can be incorporated into any room in your home.

To ensure the gaming accessories are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, IKEA designers have held workshops with ROG staff, professional gamers and video game lovers to get their take on what makes the ideal gaming accessory.

“By teaming up with ROG, IKEA wants to combine its home furnishing knowledge with ROG’s expertise in creating exceptional gaming experiences,” a statement on IKEA’s website divulged. The company also said they would design “affordable gaming furniture accessories,” although they didn’t go into detail surrounding the role of ROG. Known for creating premium hardware and gear for gamers, it’s most likely that ROG will assist in the design of gaming desks and chairs while IKEA focus on the other products in the collection.

“ROG is thrilled to be partnering with IKEA to create the ultimate gaming lifestyle for gamers,” Kris Huang, General Manager of ASUS Gaming Gear and Accessory Business Unit said. “Gamers have always dreamed of the perfect gaming space that is both comfortably functional and enables full immersion in games. With years of experience delivering innovative gaming solutions to gamers, ROG has a strong understanding of the gaming community. Together with IKEA as an expert in home furnishings, we envision that this collaboration will create synergies that empower gamers to build the gaming space they have always imagined in the comfort of their own homes.”

The first range of products is set to launch in China in February 2021 and will be available worldwide in October 2021.
