Its Official: That Mysterious Statue Was In Fact Connected To A New ‘Divinity’ Game from Larian Studios

It turns out that mysterious statue in the Mojave Desert was a new Divinity game teaser, The Game Awards 2025 has revealed.

After stoking speculation for the past few weeks, we finally know what that mysterious demonic statue that popped up in the Mojave Desert means: an all-new Divinity game from Larian Studios.

On December 2nd, a brightly lit neon-red statue was posted on The Game Awards’ official social media accounts, teasing that an unannounced game would be revealed at the upcoming ceremony airing today.

Fan speculation blew up instantly, with gamers anticipating that the statue was related to a new Diablo IV expansion or the ever-looming Elder Scrolls 6. However, both theories were debunked by Bloomberg Games Industry journalist Jason Schrier, who said the statue was unrelated to both games but “very cool and many will be excited for it.”

Now, we finally know what it’s for: A third Divinity game from Baldur’s Gate 3 developers Larian Studios.

Game Awards host Geoff Keighly revealed the statue was called the ‘Hellstone’. The reveal trailer would show a decrepit king trapped inside a Wicker Man-esque statue. A festival would be held outside, a large crowd engaging in a hedonistic display (with plenty of orcs throwing up and pigs eating it, good fun to be had).

After a very in-depth and gruesome depiction of the man being burned alive, blood would spray from the king’s body, infecting the people. A cut after would reveal that the corpses would surround the now dead king, forming the infamous throne that was propped up in the Mojave Desert just the other week.

Publication MP1st would be the first to break the story, as it reported that a new European trademark had been filed for something called ‘Divinity’ on December 10 by a German law firm. This same law firm had previously filed trademark applications for other Larian games, strongly hinting at the connection.

With the announcement of Solasta 2 earlier on the show, it’s looking like 2026 will be a solid year for fans of the CRPG genre.
