Kneecap Slam UK Government Over ‘Witch-Hunt’ Appeal As Mo Chara Terror Case Drags On

Share

Kneecap have hit out at the UK government again, accusing authorities of wasting over £1million (converts to roughly $1.9 to $2.1 million AUD) pursuing Mo Chara’s terror case, as the Crown Prosecution Service appeal now waits on a decision “to be given at a later date”.

Content warning: genocide, death, political violence

The case against the Belfast rapper, Mo Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh), was originally dropped last September after the Chief Magistrate ruled the charge was “unlawful” and “null”, citing a technical issue with how the case was brought.

On Wednesday, January 14th supporters gathered outside London’s High Court as the CPS attempted to overturn the ruling that threw the charge out in 2025, Kneecap’s DJ Próvaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh) and the group’s manager Daniel Lambert attended the hearing, but the decision has now been delayed.

At the end of proceedings, Lord Justice Edis said: “You have obviously given us a great deal to think about… We will be reserving judgement.”

Kneecap later shared a statement

“The High Court has reserved their judgement, we stand by to await vindication and an end to this carnival of distraction.”

Their full message didn’t pull punches: “Once again today was a distraction from the complicity of the British government in genocide.”

They continued: “Today more Palestinians were murdered by Israel. More homes demolished and more children dead due to cold and lack of aid not permitted to enter by Israel. That is the ONLY thing about this whole witch-hunt worth talking about.”

The trio also labelled the case “a waste of public time, and public money”, adding:

“We now believe over a million pounds has been wasted. Tax payer money that could and should have been spent on improving the lives of ordinary people.”

Kneecap’s statement went further: “Instead it has been spent at the behest of politicians who are hellbent on silencing those who seek to stand in solidarity with those suffering a genocide. Politicians acting at the behest of lobby groups.”

They ended by adding: “Finally we must remember those brave young heroes on hunger strike in British jails… Free Palestine. Free the Filton 24. Free the six counties.”

The case stems from an alleged November 2024 incident involving a Hezbollah flag and comments made onstage, Kneecap deny supporting Hamas or Hezbollah and say the footage was taken out of context.
