When Knocked Loose and Poppy stormed the stage on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last Tuesday, it was a moment of pure carnage—a sonic landslide that few late-night viewers were ready for.
For fans of heavy music, it was an iconic moment: hardcore’s primal energy infiltrating the polished realm of network TV. But not everyone was thrilled. In fact, some of Kimmel’s more, let’s say, delicate viewers, took to Facebook to share their outrage—and the results are hilarious.
The Complaints Roll In
It seems Bryan Garris’ guttural screams and Poppy’s matching ferocity left certain viewers reaching for their smelling salts. One commenter kicked off the whinging with this gem:
“If I have to read the lyrics I’ll just read them and not listen to someone yell them. That wasn’t singing, anyone can yell lyrics and get paid.”
Imagine surviving this far into life thinking metal vocals are just “yelling.” Another was baffled by the concept of moshing, lamenting:
“This was not enjoyable. And you can’t understand more than 5% of the lyrics. Moshing doesn’t equal dancing.”
True, moshing may not be Strictly Come Dancing material, but it’s arguably a lot more fun.
The Crown Jewel of Complaints
One commenter really took the cake with an essay-length grievance, complete with an ADOLESCENT son apparently traumatised by Knocked Loose’s bone-shaking breakdowns:
“You know, I was trying to enjoy the program. I was sitting on the couch with my son who is an ADOLESCENT waiting to see the musical guest because we like the nice music the show usually books. By the third or fourth ‘JUNT’ from the guitars my son was in tears. He doesn’t like scary things, and quite frankly I think the Kimmel show and its staff should make a formal apology.”
If a few “junts” sent their kid spiralling, maybe late-night TV isn’t the real problem here.
A Hardcore Milestone
For those who live and breathe alternative music, the performance was a huge deal. Hardcore doesn’t get much airtime on a stage like this—especially not with a circle pit forming under simulated rain. The fact that it ruffled some feathers only cements its status as an all-time moment.
Let’s be honest: this isn’t the first time heavy music has had people clutching their pearls, and it won’t be the last. Knocked Loose and Poppy delivered exactly what fans wanted—brutality, chaos, and a little controversy for good measure. And if a few Kimmel regulars couldn’t handle the junts, well, maybe it’s time to stick to reruns of The Voice.
