Magic: The Gathering Shares First Look At Upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender Collab

Share

Magic: The Gathering has shared an extended look at its upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration, releasing later this year and revealed up to 68 new cards.

Magic: The Gathering continues to have a breakout year. After launching the massively popular (and extremely profitable) Final Fantasy collaboration, the trading card game franchise is gearing up to drop its next big collab of the year.

Announced in Februrary earlier this year, fans have finally received their first extended look at the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set, releasing on November 21st.

While the upcoming collaboration won’t have any pre-constructed commander decks, MTG publisher Wizards of the Coast has revealed a commander bundle that players can buy to help set up their own decks after release.

You can watch the reveal video narrated by Zuko’s voice actor, Dante Basco, below:

As revealed by the trailer, players will get to assemble decks using a variety of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters and different iterations of them throughout the series to harness the four elements against their opponents.

Each of these bending mechanics offers new, unique effects and isn’t limited by the card’s colour, which is neat, as some cards will span multiple colours, letting you pair it with different mana types.

Magic: The Gathering is known for its collabs, offering unlikely pairings through unique mechanics. For example, its My Little Pony decks would allow players to pair the magical unicorns with some of the most hellish beasts within the franchise, so long as they were smiling.

Thankfully, the upcoming ATLA set should hopefully let players find new and inventive ways to build decks with a wide variety of cards. For Avatar fans not necessarily familiar with Magic: The Gathering, but are keen on some new collector’s items, booster packs come packed with full-art variants featuring cropped screengrabs from each episode of the original series. Personally, I think these look a bit awkward, but the variants are out there for those who like them.

If you really hate having money, there are also some Secret Lair drops set to feature everyone’s favourite Cabbage merchant.

So, if you’re looking for another excuse to break into one of the trading card game’s largest and most successful franchises, this might just be your next best entry point yet.

You can pre-order packs and bundles via Wizards of the Coast’s official website, Amazon or your local game store.
