Matt Zane Shares Emotional KISS Tribute Moment Honouring Wayne Static

Share

Matt Zane’s ongoing mission to preserve Wayne Static’s legacy has taken another emotional turn, this time involving two rock icons who helped shape his own musical journey.

The filmmaker and Society 1 frontman recently revealed a personal moment shared with KISS legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley while filming content connected to his upcoming documentary exploring the lives of Wayne Static and Tera Wray (per Metal Devastation Radio).

Following a separate filming session, Zane approached the pair privately to speak about Wayne Static’s impact, the rise of Static-X, and the deeply personal documentary project he has continued developing despite growing controversy surrounding the late frontman’s legacy.

“Gene and Paul were very gracious and attentive as I spoke about Wayne Static, his career with Static-X, and the documentary I am currently working on about him and Tera,” said Zane. “Gene even recognized the name Static-X.”

A meaningful moment

According to Zane, the conversation became more meaningful as Simmons and Stanley asked questions about Wayne’s career and life before agreeing to pose with a memorial poster honouring the late musician.

“It was a genuinely meaningful moment,” Zane added. “I appreciate them taking the time to acknowledge Wayne’s legacy.”

The emotional interaction arrives only weeks after Zane reignited tensions surrounding the handling of Wayne Static’s story during a fiery interview discussing his fallout with members of Static-X and those connected to the band’s current operation.

Speaking on the We Were Loud Once podcast earlier this month, Zane criticised the ongoing evolution of the band’s reunion era and questioned whether Wayne’s memory was truly being preserved authentically.

“But if you were really all about, you know, just pushing Wayne‘s memory and ‘Evil Disco‘, why do you got a robot up there with puppets?” he said.

Zane’s documentary remains in production amid reported legal opposition, with the filmmaker insisting the project aims to present the unfiltered reality of Wayne Static and Tera Wray’s lives, struggles, and lasting influence on the metal community.
