The Creature Is Revealed! The New Frankenstein Trailer Gives Us A Look At Jacob Elordi’s Monster

Share

See what’s on the slab in Guillermo Del Toro’s lab as Elordi displays his built body.

Hard to believe we’re finally getting Guillermo Del Toro‘s take on Frankenstein after so long. The director of Hellboy and The Shape Of Water has been on the record as wanting to do so since at least 2007, and the roots no doubt run much deeper than that. And yet here we are, mere weeks away from the thing finally seeing the light of day. Also seeing the light of day, but more likely moonlight and the odd bolt of lightning: the Creature, as played by man of the moment Jacob Elordi.

What’s the plot?

Really? Righto.

Based on the 1816 novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein tells the tale of the driven, brilliant young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who attempts to create life by jury-rigging together a body from corpse parts. Good news: it works! Bad news: horrified by his creation, Victor abandons the nameless brute, which, on reflection, was a remarkably poor choice.

Look, it’s based on one of the greatest novels in the English language, which has already inspired countless adaptations, homages, and parodies. If you’re not across it already, that’s a you problem.

Who’s in it?

  • Oscar Isaac is driven scientist Victor Frankenstein, with Christian Convery as the young Victor.
  • Jacob Elordi is Frankenstein’s monster.
  • Mia Goth is Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor’s fiancée.
  • Christoph Waltz is Harlander.
  • Felix Kammerer is William Frankenstein, Victor’s younger brother.
  • Lars Mikkelsen is Captain Anderson.
  • David Bradley is the blind hermit who shows kindness to the monster.
  • Ralph Ineson is Professor Krempe, professor of natural philosophy and Victor’s mentor.

When’s it out?

Frankenstein hits Australian cinemas on October 23, just in time for Halloween, before landing on Netflix on November 7. I would (and in fact, I am) definitely make a trip to the theatre for this one, though.

What’s the vibe?

Modern cinema’s premiere fantasist doing Frankenstein – what’s not to love? Everything that’s dropped so far is just more and more exciting. I mean, just look at the new poster:
