Ozzy Osbourne Floral Tributes Will Be Mulched And Scattered On His Grave

Tributes left for Ozzy Osbourne at Black Sabbath Bridge in Birmingham are being sorted and recycled, with flowers mulched for the Prince of Darkness’ grave.

In the weeks following Ozzy Osbourne’s death, flowers and cards have flowed in from fans wanting to pay tribute to the music legend. In Birmingham though, rather than adding to landfill, these tributes are being put to good use: flowers will be mulched to scatter on the Prince of Darkness’ grave and the Osbourne family garden.

The confirmation comes from a number of Instagram posts made in collaboration with the official Ozzy Osbourne account and Central BID Birmingham in regards to tributes left at the Black Sabbath Bridge on Broad Street.

One such post says: “We’ve now collected the heartfelt tributes left for Ozzy with the Osbourne family’s blessing. Each message will now be respectfully sorted and sent to his family. The flowers will be recycled for the family to include within their garden.”

Another official post shows the flowers laid out in what appears to be a warehouse, alongside reporting from the BBC confirming the flowers will be mulched to scatter on Ozzy’s grave, while tributes such as cards are being given to his family. Staff from Central BID Birmingham are reportedly working around the clock to make this happen – given the sheer amount of love shown, it’s no shock it’s a gargantuan task.

The handling of tributes is a far cry from the likely fate of similar flowers and cards left for other celebrities – most of which are likely destined to be thrown away, as opposed to being put to good use in a deeply personal way.

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, surrounded by family at his Buckinghamshire estate, just weeks after his final Back to the Beginning performance at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates.

Since his death, tributes from the music industry and fans have continued to roll in as the world pays their respects to a legend and pioneer of metal.
