Prompts Push Beyond Metalcore On New EP Parasite Dream

Share

Japan based heavy innovators Prompts are stepping further outside the lines with the release of their new EP Parasite Dream, out now via Greyscale Records.

Across recent years, Prompts have quietly built momentum by refusing to stay in one lane, pulling from metalcore, nü-metal, djent, mathcore and deathcore while shaping something that feels distinctly their own.

Parasite Dream feels less like another collection of heavy songs and more like a statement of identity, built around themes of intrusive thoughts, internal conflict and self-acceptance, the EP explores the uncomfortable parts of ourselves that are often easier to ignore than confront.

Vocalist PK explained the concept behind the release:

“We chose to express those feelings as a ‘parasite’ living within us.

“As we explored that idea, we began to realise that these intrusive emotions and perspectives might actually be another side of ourselves.

“Because of that, Parasite Dream isn’t about treating those feelings as something that should simply be removed or rejected. Instead, it represents accepting them as part of who we are and learning how to coexist with them.

“Ultimately, the EP is about self-understanding and embracing every part of yourself, even the parts that can feel uncomfortable or difficult to face.”

The release ties together a run of singles that has steadily elevated the band’s profile, including Death Of Me, Deceiver, Edgerunner, Sun Eater and Stranger, the latter featuring The Plot In You’s Landon Tewers (above) and earning praise across the heavy music world.

According to PK, the extended timeline between Sun Eater and the final EP gave the band space to rethink what Prompts actually represents.

While metalcore remains at the centre of their sound, Parasite Dream reaches wider, reflecting both experimentation and the dual Japanese and Korean influences that continue shaping the project.

After Australian tours supporting The Gloom In The Corner, HEAVENSGATE and later Diamond Construct, Prompts already feel familiar to local heavy audiences.

Parasite Dream suggests they’re only getting started.
