Slipknot has finally addressed the growing uncertainty surrounding Sid Wilson’s position in the band, confirming that the longtime turntablist is no longer associated with the group.
The confirmation came on August 14th in a statement posted to Slipknot’s social media accounts.
The post was subsequently deleted, but not before the announcement was captured and circulated online (per Loudwire).
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
The band did not offer any explanation for Wilson’s departure, leaving the circumstances behind the split unclear.
Weeks of speculation
The announcement follows several weeks of conflicting signals surrounding Wilson’s status.
TMZ first reported on July 31st that Wilson had allegedly been permanently removed from Slipknot, with a source claiming the decision had been made that day.
Further reporting from the outlet alleged that Wilson’s treatment of his bandmates had contributed to the decision and that tensions had been building for some time. Those claims were not publicly confirmed by Slipknot or Wilson.
Slipknot guitarist Jim Root appeared to caution fans against immediately accepting the initial reports, writing on Instagram:
“Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
The situation became particularly curious earlier this week when Wilson appeared at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational in Atlantic City, where he introduced himself as “No. 0, from the world famous Slipknot.”
That appearance came just two days before the band’s now deleted statement, making the timing particularly notable.
A member since 1998
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998 and became an integral part of the band’s sound and identity as DJ Starscream and No. 0. He appeared on every Slipknot studio album from their 1999 self-titled debut through 2022’s The End, So Far.
He was also involved in Look Outside Your Window, the experimental Slipknot side project featuring Wilson alongside Corey Taylor, Jim Root and Clown, which was finally released this year.
For now, the band’s brief statement is the clearest confirmation yet that Wilson’s more than 25 year run with Slipknot has come to an end.
